Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts at Alliance
Alliance's facility in Shreveport, LA is about 250 miles northwest
of Katrina’s devastation. The area is being directly affected
as 110,000 evacuees pour into the eleven parishes (counties) that
comprise northwestern Louisiana. About 50,000 of those people are
in the Shreveport area.
There
are 40-50 local shelters that are run by churches and civic organizations
that receive no direct financial or material assistance from FEMA
or the Red Cross.
The employees at Alliance's Keithville facility have been working
with one of those shelters providing items that are needed on an
immediate basis. Additional funds are being colleted by Alliance's
Spokane employees, vendors and other interested parties. Funds collected
are going directly to provide essentials to individuals and families
immediately. No bureaucracy or red-tape—simply providing for
immediate needs.
So far, some of the items that have been purchased and delivered
by Alliance employees include:
- sleeping bags, foam floor mats, and small pillows
- toothpaste and toothbrushes
- shampoo, hand soap, personal hygiene products
- washcloths and small bath towels
- manual shavers and shaving lotion
- small children’s toys and games
- boxed snack products such as snack cakes and chips
Alliance's employees have responded directly to make a difference
to familys in need.
