The J&L Specialty Folder Gluer is manufactured by Alliance Machine
Systems International, LLC. The J&L is widely recognized as the most
versatile folder gluer in the world. With blank processing capabilities
that range from 18-point solid fiberboard to triple wall corrugated, the
J&Ls versatility is unmatched in the market place. The product
line ranges from small machine widths of 54 and 65 focused
on the mini flute market, to standard machines with widths ranging from
80 through 170.
The open architecture of the J&L allows operators to enter the machine
from both sides to set-up a section at a time. A blank is jogged into
the section and the carriers and tooling are set in one pass. This single
pass set-up allows faster set-ups than traditional designs where the tooling
from the old run must be manually cleared from the modules, the carriers
electronically positioned, then the new tooling manually placed for the
next run. Fast set-ups are a key component in the profitability equation.
Standard machine configurations run the full range of RSCs, die-cuts,
auto-lockbottoms, four-corner infold and outfold trays, and tubes up to
200 long. Cost effective tooling kits are available to handle unique
box designs such as multi-front fold boxes, six corner trays, hexagonal
boxes, and trapezoidal display bases. Entire modules may be required to
perform these functions on competitive machines.
Squaring of even length panel boxes is accomplished via a full width spanker
assembly, complete with offset attachments. Squaring of boxes with uneven
length panels is accomplished utilizing belted squaring assemblies that
correct and pin the number one and four panels prior to entering the compression
section. For difficult boxes that have a higher panel to hinge length
ratio, a servo driven inline unit momentarily stops the box and allows
the carrier belts to drive the lead edge of the panels to a square position
prior to releasing.
The true versatility of the J&L design is demonstrated in its unique
ability to tackle truly special boxes. Examples include gussetted, and
corner reinforced box, and the ability to feed, join, fold, and glue two
halves of a box. The gussetted box design utilizes three plies of corrugated
in each corner to replicate the stacking strength of a triple wall box
in a single wall design. The ability to load two halves of a box, side
by side in the feeder, then join, fold, and glue them within the machine
allows converters that are press width limited to manufacture larger boxes
without having to invest in larger presses.
The J&L Specialty Folder Gluer becomes an offensive weapon, providing
converters with superior versatility and flexibility when competing in
the much coveted, high value added, specialty box marketplace.
