Reason:
Weyerhaeuser
and Alliance have agreed to make the following changes to the
operating functionality of the MSK and SMR circuits on a variety
of Alliance machine product lines.
Alliance has
redesigned the SMR circuits to operate as agreed. A second SMR
and additional wiring is added, with the result that the E-stop
and MSK circuits are separated. This design change became
effective Nov 10, 2005 for machines in the affected product
lines that will be delivered to Weyerhaeuser.
This service
bulletin provides instructions to retrofit the same revised
circuit changes into the delivered machines noted in Table 1.
Instructions are grouped into separate appendixes per each
respective machine class. Please note that only the applicable
instruction appendixes for the affected machine types are being
sent to each affected Weyerhaeuser location.

Recommended
action:
Alliance
recommends that you perform the modification as described below
within 30 days after receipt of this service bulletin.
For tracking
purposes please send a confirmation of completion to Alliance
and Weyerhaeuser corporate management within 3 days of
completing this service bulletin modification on each affected
machine. The confirmation forms and self-addressed envelopes are
attached at the end of this service bulletin. Once this
information is received at Alliance, a post-modification visit
will then be scheduled with each plant to test & certify that
each completed retrofit installation operates as intended.

General Notes
The attached
instructions are designed to upgrade certain machines to meet
revised Weyerhaeuser MSK circuit functionality and Alliance Machine
Systems corporate standards document # 1025950-C2 dated 11 Nov
2005. Only the specific machines noted in Table 1 are approved to
be modified by this procedure.
WARNING! During the installation of this upgrade, the E-STOP circuitry will
be
disabled. any attempt to operate the
machine before this retrofit
is completed
may result in serious injury or death.
Installation of
this retrofit requires access to areas of the machine that are
unsafe to occupy unless the machine has been properly secured.
Please follow the hazardous energy lockout procedure and safety
instructions contained in the respective Operator Manual before and
at all times during the installation of the retrofit.
If you do not have
qualified personnel available to install these components, please
call Alliance Machine Systems International, LLC, Field Service at
(509) 535-0356 (select Option 2) to schedule a field service
technician to install the components for you. Pricing and the
availability of field service technicians can be obtained at the
time of your request.
It is highly
recommended that the installer completely read and understand these
directions and confirm that the necessary parts included in the kit
are present prior to beginning the modifications. Any questions
about these instructions or the parts received can be directed to
Field Service department noted above. Once the installation
procedure has begun, the machine shall not be used in any mode of
operation.
If you have any
problems installing these retrofits, contact Alliance Machine
Systems International, LLC, Field Service at 509-535-0356 and select
Option 2.
For these
procedures, you will need –
-
basic tools for
installation and mounting of electrical components in electrical
panels / cabinets / enclosures
-
tools for
pulling wire through conduit.
-
tools for
punching, drilling, and/or tapping holes may be required
-
A ladder will
be required to gain access to junction boxes located near the
