Problem Recommended Action Procedure

Problem:

It has been discovered that a particular air valve (Norgren V61R611DC313AY: Alliance PN# 1025064) operates improperly under certain circumstances.  The air valves that control the air motors for the in and out motion of the adjustable power tampers can stall or freeze if backpressure was applied while in motion.  This would require the operator to work the controls for the air motor (in and out) to free the spool.  Other than this occasional occurrence the valves and motor work normally.

Recommended Action:

Replacement valves (Norgren V61RA11DC213AA: Alliance PN# 1027792) are being sent and should arrive soon to your plant.  Replacement of the original valves is recommended to achieve consistent and proper operation of the power adjust tampers.   Below is a picture showing the area of the valves.

Once this is complete please send the original valves back to Alliance as quickly as possible.

Procedure:

Allow approximately 30-40 minutes to complete this operation.

  1. Lower extendo down to a position easily reachable by Maintenance personnel.

  2. Turn off and lock out air supply and power for the prefeeder.

  3. Unbolt Extendo Operator station from extendo frame for better access to valves.

  4. Label air lines and din connector wires leading to air valves before removal.

  5. Unbolt old air valves and remove from manifold.

  6. Transfer air fittings from old valves to replacement valves.

  7. Mount new air valves in place.  Be careful to properly align all O-rings and seals before securing valves to manifold.

  8. Replace all air lines and din connector wires.

  9. Remount Extendo Operator station

  10. Turn on air supply to prefeeder

  11. Test tamper systems for proper direction control and operation.
